Hike 10: Red Rocks Trading Post Trail

Welcome to Super Bowl Sunday, y’all!

Well, apparently we didn’t think it was all that important this year 😬. We spent the first half of the Super Bowl up at Red Rocks hiking. Don’t get me wrong, I love football but this year it took a backseat to hiking. Most weeks I only get two days off and one of those days is always a Sunday. Instead of focusing on football this year I was usually out hiking and my fantasy team definitely reflected this. Eek.

Honestly, it gets really difficult when you try and do “it all” and somethinga fall by the wayside. And this year football was definitely a casualty (given how terrible the Bears were, though, perhaps this was for the best 🤐).

This was our second hike over the weekend. I I knew a lot of people were going to be out hiking because it was unseasonably nice out. We had a freak warm front and Sunday reached the mid 70s...in February...in Colorado, guys. So, instead of heading out along with the crowds I decided we would run some errands in the morning and do a sunset hike.

I gave little man the choice of hiking at either Mount falcon or Red Rocks and he the latter. The Red Rocks Trading Post Trail is rated as easy on AllTrails and that is definitely fair. The trail is a 1.5 mile loop with 357 feet of elevation gain, so nothing strenuous. There’s a parking lot right at the trading post and when we arrived there were plenty of spots, but if you go earlier on a weekend it is usually full. There are plenty of other places to park at Red Rocks, it will just add a bit to your trek. Also, if you’re coming from out of state or don’t usually hit the trails here, make sure to check the concert/event schedule ahead of time!

We did this trail last year and it was my second time hiking at Red Rocks already this year. I love this trail with Breccan because there’s plenty to see and it’s just long enough to where it feels like you got a little exercise in, but short enough to knock out pretty quickly. I also have to give him props as he’s been a very good sport dealing with mommy while she takes pictures 📸 .

I feel like because this is 20 minutes from my house I forget how breathtaking it is. I’ve been here so many times for both hiking and concerts and it’s absolutely beautiful but sometimes I have to remind myself of that because I’ve seen it so much. Crazy, right? It’s not like the views ever get old, but Red Rocks has become kind of like home to me in a lot of ways.

Even though we missed the first half of the Super Bowl, didn’t get a case of fomo as we were catching the sunset at Red Rocks. We even stopped at the amphitheater and ate our fruit snacks before we left. I feel really lucky that my son is more than willing to explore Colorado with me. Until next time Red Rocks, and I’m sure it will be soon, happy hiking!
