Was itching to get back out there after hitting Panorama Point, so I decided to hit Pence Park the next day. I had also done this trail late 2019 and honestly was super, duper hung over the last time I did it, so it wasn’t as much fun as it could‘ve been. I was most definitely not even close to hung over for this go and cannot say how much I absolute love this trail.
With everything going on, I decided I would try to hit the trail at an off time to see if this helped to minimize the crowds. The trailhead is less than thirty minutes from my house and I ended up getting there around 3pm. The lot wasn’t full, but there were definitely quite a few people there. There is a restroom at the trail head but I can’t speak for whether or not it was open.
The trail is 2.3 miles with 761 feet of elevation gain. It’s listed as moderate, which I would say is fair. I did see a family with small children on the trail, but this is not one I would personally take my little guy on given the sudden, steep incline. He could do it, but I don’t think he’d be very happy about it.
This trail is NARROW and has some pretty drastic switchback in certain parts. It does get pretty icy in some areas as a vast majority of the trek is through shaded, forested areas So make sure to bring your traction.
The trail wasn’t overly crowded but there were definitely people out. I think a lot of people choose to just do the loop and not go on the final portion of the trail. When I reached the summit I had the whole area to myself for a solid hour and a half. I chose not to bring my dogs that day because I really felt like I needed some actual alone time and that’s exactly what the mountains gave me.
