Hike 3: Mayflower Gulch

After checking the weather all weekend, it. Was. Finally. Time. I had been wanting to hike Mayflowee Gulch since I’d seen pictures posted online. I get a total whatever-the-word-is-for-a-photographer-boner for old cabins. I love ruins of any kind and knew I HAD to see this.

And let let me tell you, even with a two hour drive there and a two and a half hour drive home, totally worth it 🤤. When we got there the parking lot wasn’t even halfway full and was emptier when we left.

I only took Charli because I have a tough time taking pictures when I have Navi, too. Charly is 💯 on recall and honestly has no interest in approaching people. With Navi, unless NO ONE is around she needs to be leashed and I have to be very actively engaged with the leash. She’s still a puppy and she’s damn strong. Doesn’t make for the best pictires and sometimes, honestly, makes the hike itself tough, too.

It was a Saturday and I’d say it was about as busy as I would’ve expected on the trail, but not too many people were stopping at the cabins. It‘s been really nice in the winter to have emptier trails as most people (myself included some days) are hitting the slopes. Nearly everyone on the trail was actually snowshoeing or skiing and apparently Charli has a GREAT fear of both. Poor thing was in hyper alert mode a majority of the hike and I don’t think she had as much fun as she usually does.

The trail itself was completely shaded until the cabins and I would say moderate is a fair rating. I opted to not continue on past the cabins as I needed to be back at a certain time and knew traffic would likely be nightmare. I was right.

There were two structures along the way to the main cabin area, but one was completely snow covered. The other was a weird treehouse looking thing that Charli was brave enough to head into to check out. Or maybe she was just over the snowshoers and skiers 😂.

When the path cleared, WOW. Absolutely breathtaking and I could’ve spent hours staring and snapping photos. Charli was even the perfect little doggy model for me and posed right in the window.

We we ended up hiking about 5 miles total, I’m not sure about elevation as we didn’t complete the very last part, likely around 1100-1200. Would highly recommend checking this out and I’ll definitely be going back once it thaws out!

Happy hiking ❤️🏔✌🏼!
